📖 About Omkareshwar Temple
Omkareshwar Temple is situated on a sacred island shaped like the Hindu symbol Om (ॐ) in the Narmada River. The island houses two Jyotirlinga temples - Omkareshwar and Amareshwar (Mamaleshwar). Pilgrims traditionally circumambulate the entire island (Parikrama) which takes about 3 hours.

According to legend, the Vindhya Mountains performed penance here, and pleased with their devotion, Lord Shiva appeared in two forms - Omkareshwar and Amareshwar. The temple has been a pilgrimage site since ancient times with references in Puranas.
Temple Architecture
The Omkareshwar temple is built in Nagara style with a towering shikhara. The temple complex includes several smaller shrines and the famous 24-pillar hall. The Amareshwar temple has South Indian influences with a large courtyard.
