📖 About Baidyanath Temple
Baidyanath Temple (also called Baba Baidyanath Dham) in Deoghar is unique as it is both a Jyotirlinga and one of the 52 Shakti Peethas. The temple complex houses 21 other temples within its premises. It is particularly famous for the Shrawan Mela when millions of Kanwariyas visit.
🏢 History & Legend
According to legend, Ravana offered his ten heads one by one to please Lord Shiva at this spot. Pleased with his devotion, Shiva granted him the boon of invincibility. The temple was renovated by Puran Mal, a Gidhaur king, in 1596.
Temple Architecture
The temple complex is walled and has 22 temples in the courtyard. The main temple has a shikhara and is surrounded by smaller shrines dedicated to Parvati, Lakshmi, Ganesha, and others. The complex has a sacred Shiva Ganga tank.
