📖 About Nageshwar Temple
Nageshwar Temple, located between Gomti Dwarka and Bet Dwarka, is believed to be the first Jyotirlinga on Earth. The temple is famous for its massive 25-meter tall Shiva statue outside the main shrine. It is particularly revered for protection against poisons and snake bites.
🏢 History & Legend
According to Shiv Purana, a demon named Daruka imprisoned Shivas devotee Supriya. When she chanted Shivas name, the Lord appeared and destroyed the demon with his Pashupatastra. He then stayed as Nageshwar at this spot.
Temple Architecture
The main temple is built in Nagara style with a towering shikhara. The highlight is the 25-meter tall statue of Lord Shiva in meditation pose, visible from far away. The underground sanctum houses the ancient Jyotirlinga.
